Humanity: an identity crisis
“Biophilia” literally means love of Life. Biophilia is the philosophy that humans have an innate tendency to seek Connection with nature and other forms of life.
And why wouldn’t we?
We’re part of Nature after all. Just because we’ve mentally / emotionally / physically / spiritually Disconnected ourSelves from Nature doesn’t change anything about who we are.
We are inherently, and inextricably, Connected to Nature.
So…
How have we gotten so far from that?
How is it that we’ve created a life, a civilization, a world apart from that?
What have we left behind?
What are we running to? From?
It feels…
Ungrounded. Unintentional. Obsessive. Neurotic.
We aren’t checking in with ourSelves - at least not honestly.
In a world where we as humans are experiencing ever increasing rates of:
Stress
Anxiety
Burnout
Loneliness/Isolation
Depression
Loss of purpose
Suicide
Infertility
Obesity
Chronic disease
We act dumbfounded as to why.
Why do we refuse to look the root cause in the eye?
Why do we go out of our way to avoid the truth?
What are we afraid of?
Is it what we’ve created? Or who we’ve become?
It isn’t all bad.
But it certainly isn’t all good.
Is it at least better?
How can we be sure?
How Disconnected can we become from our True Nature…
before we yearn to Reconnect
before we’re forced to
before it’s too late
before we become something other than human
- outside of Nature -
entirely?
What will the cost be?
It feels like we may find out sooner rather than later.
And while I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious…
I’m not sure I want to find out.
